Pramono confirms deaths of three clean water project workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has confirmed information regarding the death of three workers on a clean water pipeline project on Thursday (9/7).
Nevertheless, he stated that the incident did not occur within PAM Jaya itself, but rather involved the subcontractor carrying out the project.
“The incident occurred not at PAM JAYA, but with the subcontractor party that was carrying out the work,” said Pramono when met in East Jakarta on Friday.
He explained that the three victims in the incident comprised one foreign national from China and two Indonesian nationals.
According to him, the incident took place while the subcontractor was at work.
However, although the incident did not involve PAM Jaya’s internal staff, Pramono ensured that the entire process of handling the victims had been carried out.
“At present, all handling of the victims has been carried out. So, the information is indeed true,” Pramono revealed.
Based on a report from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Sudin Gulkarmat), the three victims were suspected to have suffered gas poisoning before breathing their last.
“The PAM project workers were entering a drainage culvert, then fainted halfway down the stairs. Their friend went in to help, but also fainted. Then one more person went in and fainted again,” explained Abdul Wahid, Head of Operations Section at East Jakarta Sudin Gulkarmat.
There is as yet no more detailed information regarding the gas suspected to be the source of the poisoning inside the drainage culvert in official records.
