Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed optimism that the capital will remain safe and comfortable throughout August 2026. He called on all elements of society to work together to maintain a conducive atmosphere.

The confidence was conveyed when asked about the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to maintain security in the capital, including after the policy of removing high perimeter fences at several shopping centres. Pramono did not elaborate on the process of removing the fences.

‘What is clear is that to ensure Jakarta remains safe, comfortable, and peaceful is our collective duty,’ Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (4/8/2026).

Pramono stated that efforts to create a sense of security are not solely the government’s responsibility but require the active participation of all elements of society.

‘Thus, what we do to make it safe and comfortable, if our hearts are comfortable and safe, then surely the atmosphere will also be safe and comfortable,’ he said.

‘And I am among those who believe Jakarta will be safe and comfortable throughout this August,’ he continued.

Previously, Pramono announced plans to remove high fences at several shopping centres in Jakarta. According to him, the presence of towering fences can create the impression that Jakarta is an unsafe city.

He encouraged replacing these fences with green open spaces or trees, making the city’s appearance more pedestrian and community-friendly. A day after the statement, a high fence at a shopping centre in South Jakarta began to be dismantled, drawing public attention.
