Pramono Clarifies "Visit Jakarta" Programme is Not an Invitation for Provincial Residents to Settle in Capital
JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has clarified the “Visit Jakarta” programme, which had come under scrutiny, emphasising that it is not an invitation for people from provincial areas to come and settle in the capital during the Lebaran holiday period.
“We want to correct some reporting about visiting Jakarta. It does not mean we are expecting people in villages to come to Jakarta en masse for the holiday. Because clearly, Jakarta is not the right place for them,” said Pramono when met in the Thousand Islands, Jakarta Regency, on Friday (13 March 2026).
“Jakarta is offering space for anyone to enjoy Jakarta when the city is quiet,” he added.
Pramono explained that based on data held by the provincial government, the number of residents departing Jakarta for the holiday is estimated to be roughly similar to the previous year.
“From the data we have, the number of holiday travellers is estimated to be approximately the same as last year,” he said.
Accordingly, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to introduce various programmes during the Lebaran holiday period, including offering discounts at several tourist attractions in Jakarta.
“We will carry out discount programmes at various tourist sites,” he said.
This policy is expected to provide a different experience for residents who remain in Jakarta during the Lebaran holiday period. The programme also aims to encourage the public to enjoy various city facilities when Jakarta is less crowded than on ordinary days.
