Pramono Claims Jakarta Floods Receded in 4 Hours Due to Activation of Water Pumps

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung claimed that the flooding which struck the capital has receded because all water pumps were activated to accelerate the handling of waterlogging.

He claimed that this measure was quite effective as the flood could recede in a few hours.

“So when the flood occurred, I immediately ordered all pumps to be activated. When the flood or rain happened from 6:00 PM WIB until around 8:00 PM WIB, relatively 3-4 hours later the flood had already started to recede,” said Pramono when met at the North Jakarta Mayor’s office on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Pramono stated that the flooding that returned to hit the capital was caused by the high rainfall in recent times.

“Why did this flood happen? First, because the rainfall was high,” said Pramono.

According to Pramono, this step is important so that water flow is not obstructed.

Piled-up rubbish can clog water channels and make flooding more likely to occur.

“I really hope that when there is no rain for two weeks, people (do not litter indiscriminately), the rubbish ends up clogging in several places,” he said.

Previously, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded 115 RTs and four road sections in the capital area that were inundated by flooding on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
