Pramono Claims 95 Per Cent of Residents Want Rasuna Said CFD to Continue

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung personally inspected the inaugural implementation of Car Free Day (CFD) in the Rasuna Said area, Jakarta, on Sunday (7/6). He claimed that many residents desire for the Rasuna Said CFD to become a regular activity.

“The vast majority—almost 95 to 96 per cent—expect this car free day to be continuous. The remaining 5 per cent hope for some improvements,” Pramono stated following the inspection.

According to Pramono, resident complaints generally pertain to the arrangement of roads and pedestrian walkways. Additionally, the Jakarta Provincial Government is planting trees around the CFD location. “They can see along the road, especially on the eastern side, that it is not yet 100 per cent complete. Trees are still being planted because the project is only due for official inauguration on 22 June,” he added.

Furthermore, there have been suggestions regarding environmental cleanliness and the regulation of street vendors. Pramono has instructed the Mayor of South Jakarta, Syafrin Liputo, to manage these issues. “To be honest, we do not permit anyone to trade on the car free day route. However, we must find a softer approach that does not trigger public controversy,” he explained.

One resident, Nita (31), welcomed the presence of CFD in Rasuna Said, noting that she previously frequented the CFD at Bundaran HI. She remarked that the Rasuna Said location provides a new option for residents seeking a relaxed place to exercise without the disturbance of passing vehicles.

Conversely, another resident, Farhan, felt that the CFD at Bundaran HI remains more comfortable than Rasuna Said. “I have been there. In my opinion, it is still better here [Bundaran HI] because the road is wider,” he said. Nevertheless, he appreciated the government’s step in providing a new CFD location, noting that it provides more options for citizens and prevents overcrowding in a single area.
