Pramono claims 2026 PPDB implementation smooth with minimal complaints
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo claimed that the 2026 New Student Admissions (PPDB) process in the capital has run smoothly, with almost no complaints from the public regarding the new student intake procedure.
“Alhamdulillah, up to this point complaints or objections from the public have been almost non-existent, very minimal,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Monday.
Pramono said that, based on a report from the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office, Nahdiana, the PPDB implementation on the ground has gone well because it uses an open and transparent system.
“I received a report from the Head of the Education Office; because the system is transparent and open, it has run relatively well. There are practically no complaints about it,” Pramono explained.
In addition, Pramono confirmed that there has been no increase yet in the number of free private schools in Jakarta. The programme currently still covers 103 private schools.
Pramono said the addition of free private schools would be discussed further with the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD DKI).
“We will discuss it further with the Jakarta DPRD later. At the moment there are 103 schools, and there will certainly be an increase,” Pramono elaborated.
Meanwhile, the first day of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for students began on Monday.
The Jakarta Education Office reminded all schools to carry out the MPLS without hazing, fee collections, or activities unrelated to the purpose of introducing the school environment.
These provisions are set out in Circular Letter from the Head of the Jakarta Education Office Number 70 of 2026 concerning the Implementation of the First Day of School and the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS), which applies to all educational institutions in Jakarta.
“We are ensuring that the MPLS takes place safely, in a friendly and educational manner, and free from any form of violence or hazing,” said Nahdiana, Head of the Jakarta Education Office.
In the circular, the Education Office set out seven prohibitions that schools must observe during the MPLS.
First, schools are prohibited from carrying out hazing or other forms of violence against new students.
Second, schools must not collect fees or other forms of payment while the activities are taking place.
Third, schools are prohibited from assigning activities that are irrelevant to the purposes of the MPLS.
Fourth, the use of attributes that are not educational or unrelated to school environment introduction activities is also not permitted.
In addition, schools are barred from involving alumni as MPLS organisers.
The Education Office also prohibits schools from organising the MPLS in ways that contradict the principles of a Safe and Comfortable School Culture.
In terms of oversight, the Jakarta Education Office has opened a complaint service via its WhatsApp Call Centre, which began operating effectively on 13 July 2026.
Through this service, members of the public, parents, and students can report suspected violations during the MPLS.
“Every report will be followed up swiftly, objectively, and transparently,” said Nahdiana.
