JAKARTA — A number of Jakarta residents have raised complaints about padel sports activities, which have recently become a popular trend among the public. The issue stems from padel courts being situated in the middle of residential neighbourhoods.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said his administration has catalogued several problems arising from the location of padel courts in residential areas. There are at least three main issues that have emerged from padel activities in these neighbourhoods.

“There are indeed three complaints from residents that have been recorded — one of them is parking,” he said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (25/2/2026).

According to him, most padel players drive their own vehicles to the courts. Meanwhile, court operators do not provide adequate parking facilities. As a result, many players park their vehicles haphazardly in residential streets.

“Regarding parking, if you’ll pardon my saying so, padel players on average are people who have the means to drive their own cars, and they often park in residential areas because there is no designated parking, so they park indiscriminately,” he said.

Pramono noted that this situation clearly disturbs residents living near the padel courts. For this reason, the Jakarta provincial government will carry out enforcement measures.

“It is very disruptive to residents. So we will also bring that under control,” he said.

Beyond parking issues, noise generated by padel activities has also become a concern — particularly when courts lack sound insulation.

“We have already asked the Youth and Sports Agency, which provides recommendations for the construction of new padel courts, to treat the noise issue as a primary consideration,” he said.
