Pramono Calls for Investigation into Cable Vandalism at Lenteng Agung Footbridge Lift

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the lift at the Lenteng Agung Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) is out of service because unidentified individuals cut its cables. He has requested that the incident be investigated. “What happened is the cable was cut. Because the cable was cut, operations were halted,” Pramono said in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/6/2026). Pramono confirmed he has ordered an investigation to uncover the perpetrators of the vandalism. He stressed that the Jakarta Provincial Government will not tolerate the destruction of public facilities. “I have requested an investigation. Whoever did this, I ask for firm action to be taken,” he stated. Pramono even proposed additional sanctions if the perpetrator is a public transport user. According to him, the offender could be blocked from accessing public transportation services in Jakarta. “If indeed they are a public transport user, for example, I request they be blacklisted from using public transportation in Jakarta. Because we give no space for vandalism in Jakarta,” he asserted. Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government is currently working to repair various pedestrian crossing facilities in the capital. One effort involves revitalising a number of pedestrian bridges to make them safer and more comfortable for public use. He cited the pedestrian bridge in the Senen area, which was recently inaugurated and is now operating well. Additionally, the Jakarta Provincial Government is providing options for residents to cross via pedestrian bridges, lifts, or pelican crossings. “This shows that the Jakarta Government is seriously and earnestly repairing the existing pedestrian bridges,” he said. Beyond the Lenteng Agung case, Pramono also highlighted the rampant theft and vandalism of other public facilities, such as public street lighting and pedestrian bridge components. He has requested relevant agencies to prepare firm measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring. “If people commit vandalism, theft, and so on, I will ask the relevant agencies and regional apparatus organisations to ensure such individuals are taught a lesson. So they do not arbitrarily destroy public facilities,” he added.
