Pramono: Bus Stops and CCTV Damaged on 27 August Have Been Repaired

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has said that various public facilities damaged during the unrest on Thursday night (27/8) have been repaired.

He confirmed that bus stops and CCTV cameras that were targeted for vandalism are back to normal and no longer disrupting public activity.

“I have ordered immediate repairs because I do not want anyone to be inconvenienced,” he told reporters in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (29/8).

He said he went down directly with Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri and Jakarta Military Commander Lieutenant General TNI Deddy Suryadi to carry out clean-up operations after the crowd dispersed.

“Last night I, the Police Chief, the Military Commander, and all relevant stakeholders including the mayors immediately carried out clean-up work,” he said.

Pramono confirmed that traffic conditions on Friday morning (28/8) had returned to normal. He also expressed hope that public activities over the weekend, including the car free day (CFD), would proceed as usual.

“That is why traffic returned to normal yesterday. And today activities are also normal,” he said.

Furthermore, he assured that the government respects the public’s right to express their aspirations through demonstrations. However, Pramono urged that protests be conducted in an orderly manner without damaging public facilities.

“Demonstrations are protected by law. As Governor of Jakarta, I have repeatedly said please go ahead, but do not damage public infrastructure,” he explained.

He then reminded that damage to public facilities ultimately harms the public. Therefore, he urged the crowd not to engage in anarchic acts or disrupt public order.

“If it is damaged, who suffers? The public themselves suffer,” he said.
