Pramono Breaks Ground on Semanggi Park Revitalisation with Rp 134 Billion Budget
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has broken ground on the revitalisation of Semanggi Park in South Jakarta, expressing his ambition for the park to become a new icon for the capital.
“Starting today, and God willing by 22 June 2027, Jakarta will have a new and improved showcase. Its name is Semanggi,” Pramono said in his remarks at the site on Friday (20/2/2026).
Pramono explained that Semanggi was originally conceived by Indonesia’s first President Sukarno in 1962. He noted that the four leaves of the clover represent the functions of connectivity, transformation, aesthetics, and life.
“Now, the DKI Jakarta government wants this place to truly become an iconic venue, a place that everyone can make good use of. And as the Head of the Parks Agency mentioned earlier, this place will represent a regeneration of Bung Karno’s ideas from that era which remain contextually relevant today,” he said.
Pramono added that another of Sukarno’s concepts was reconnection — making the location interconnected. Semanggi Park’s site spans six hectares of connected space.
“And lastly, it will become a reactivation — activated for anyone, regardless of what group they belong to, to make use of this place. But most importantly, I have emphasised that this must not disrupt existing traffic flow. After all, this is a main transport artery in Jakarta, Jakarta’s principal showcase,” he said.
The construction of Semanggi Park carries a substantial budget of approximately Rp 134 billion. “The construction of this site requires approximately Rp 134 billion. And that is entirely not from the regional budget. What follows is what our partner — our associate, in this case Pak Nyoman — will derive as benefits,” he explained.
“But of course, for whoever transforms this place, our partner is spending a considerable sum of Rp 134 billion. They must also subsequently derive benefits from a improved Semanggi,” he added.
Pramono said the revitalisation of Semanggi Park is targeted for completion in June 2026. “I hope it will be finished by 22 June, as that marks Jakarta’s anniversary, as well as 500 years for Jakarta. We are marking the occasion with the construction of this Semanggi project,” he concluded.
