Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has banned civil servants (ASN) from working in cafes or public places while implementing the work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday. ASN are required to work from home in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Pramono emphasised that WFH does not mean working freely from any location. He assured that there would be strict sanctions for ASN who violate the rule.

“Regarding working from cafes or anywhere else, if that happens, there will definitely be firm sanction actions for it,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

When asked further about the form of sanctions, he affirmed that violations would be subject to disciplinary measures.

The WFH policy every Friday was previously established by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) as a follow-up to the central government’s directive. In its implementation, ASN are still required to conduct mobile attendance and remain under the supervision of the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD).

“Attendance will still be carried out even if mobile, because the DKI Jakarta government already has the instruments for that,” he said.

In addition, ASN implementing WFH are not permitted to travel using private vehicles. If they must engage in activities outside, they are asked to use public transportation.

“If they want to travel, they must use public transport,” Pramono stated.

Previously, the central government through Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto established the WFH policy for ASN every Friday.

“The implementation of WFH for ASN in central and regional agencies will be carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” Airlangga said in a virtual press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Airlangga explained that Friday was chosen because work activities are relatively more flexible compared to Monday through Thursday.

“Public services will continue to run, and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will continue to operate. That is left to the offices to arrange with certain applications,” he said.
