Pramono Attends Sacred Reflection Night at Monas: Peace Must Continue to Be Upheld
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung attended the Sacred Reflection Night for World Peace. In his speech, Pramono emphasised that peace is a responsibility that must be continuously pursued by all elements of society.
The event, titled ‘A Sacred Night for World Peace and Global Harmony’, was initiated by Gema Sadhana. Pramono appreciated the activity as a meaningful space for interfaith togetherness amid current global challenges.
“Tonight, we show the world that Indonesia is a home for values of tolerance, togetherness, and peace,” said Pramono in his speech at the Monas Intersection area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday night (18/4/2026).
“From Jakarta, we send a moral message that peace and tranquillity are responsibilities that must be continuously upheld and fought for,” he continued.
Pramono reminded that true peace does not always emerge from large international forums. According to him, harmony actually begins from individual attitudes in respecting differences.
“True peace does not always come or emerge from large spaces like international forums, but rather starts from within every human being, from attitudes of mutual respect, the ability to accept differences, and commitment to living side by side in diversity,” he stated.
On that occasion, Pramono also recounted how Jakarta continues to nurture diversity through various religious celebrations, such as Christmas Carol, the lantern festivities during Chinese New Year, and the Ogoh-ogoh parade during Nyepi. He reaffirmed his commitment to leading Jakarta without discrimination based on background.
“I will be a Governor for all groups, all religions, all classes, all ethnicities, without distinction. And that is the principle I implement,” he asserted.
Pramono also touched on the noble value of Ahimsa or the principle of non-violence, as well as the concept of balance in relationships with God and fellow humans. He hoped that the message of peace would not stop at ceremonial activities.
“I invite all of society not to stop at ceremonies, but to make the values we reflect on tonight part of daily life to spread humanitarian values and strengthen brotherhood,” he added.
Attending the event were ambassadors from friendly countries such as Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Indonesia Sashikala Premawardhane. There were also figures from various religions and interfaith communities.
