Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assured that stocks of staple foods and fuel (BBM) in Jakarta are safe, despite the global geopolitical tensions intensifying due to the conflict between the United States and Iran. He said that to date, supplies of essential goods such as rice, meat, and curly red chillies remain adequate, and in fact there is an excess stock. ‘For Jakarta, the needs of staple goods, from rice, meat, curly red chillies, and others, we guarantee they are safe. There is actually surplus stock,’ Pramono said in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (6 March 2026). He noted that there has not yet been a significant price rise in markets; increases have occurred only for certain commodities and remain within normal limits. ‘The rise in curly red chilli yesterday was only around 3-5 percent. We hope we can maintain this,’ he added. Pramono also said the Jakarta Provincial Government has anticipated potential price hikes in meat ahead of Eid al-Fitr, for which one step is increasing the supply of live cattle to Jakarta. Beyond food, Pramono also confirmed that the availability of BBM in Jakarta remains secure. He considers the capital to always be a priority in energy distribution. ‘As for BBM, Jakarta, of course, is always a priority for its stock. We hope that in preparation for Eid al-Fitr, especially for those who are travelling, everything can go smoothly,’ he said. It is noted that the conflict involving the United States and Iran is feared to affect the global economy, including potential disruptions to energy supply and increases in commodity prices. Pramono urged the people of Jakarta not to panic and to remain calm as the government continues to monitor developments and maintain supply stability in the capital.
