Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that residents need not panic amidst global economic uncertainty caused by United States and Israeli military action against Iran. Pramono has assured that food supplies in Jakarta remain stable ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

“As we approach Eid al-Fitr soon, the primary needs in Jakarta concerning curly chillies, meat, and rice currently have more than sufficient stocks,” Pramono said after attending the JIS Ramadan Fest 2026 event at JIS, North Jakarta, on Sunday (2 March 2026).

He noted that meat has frequently been problematic in the run-up to Eid, but he has assured that everything is currently secure.

“What has always been a problem in Jakarta is the meat issue. Alhamdulillah, meat stocks are now safe,” he said.

Pramono stated that prices of essential commodities at major Jakarta markets have not yet shown significant increases, despite the current escalation in global geopolitical conditions.

“If we monitor, we look at all the prices in the main markets in Jakarta, the increases have not occurred and hopefully they will not. I will continue to monitor, and hopefully inflation will also be well controlled,” he said.

On the other hand, Pramono acknowledged that pressure on the global economy will affect global energy distribution routes. The potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial factor for the main global oil distribution route.

“Especially if the Strait of Hormuz is then closed, the impact will certainly be directly on supply chains and prices will definitely increase,” he said.
