Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested that a security guard who reprimanded a traffic violator not be dismissed from his job. The incident occurred when a driver ran a red light at a pelican crossing near the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, leading to a confrontation with the guard.

Speaking at the City Hall, Pramono said, ‘First of all, regarding the fate of the security guard, I am asking that he not be fired or dismissed.’ He noted that the driver of the Toyota Alphard was clearly in the wrong and had violated several regulations. ‘We also received a report that the vehicle’s licence plate was fake,’ he added.

A viral video showed the car driving through the crossing while pedestrians were walking, prompting the security guard to tap the vehicle’s body as a warning. The incident escalated into a dispute, with social media posts alleging the car’s occupants attempted to intimidate the guard. Pramono insisted the guard was merely carrying out his duties and should face no repercussions, while calling for law enforcement to sanction the driver if the matter cannot be resolved amicably.

Menteng Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu confirmed that the guard and the driver have since reconciled through mediation facilitated by officers at the Thamrin post. Both parties agreed to forgive each other. However, police are still investigating the alleged intimidation and the authenticity of the vehicle’s licence plates, as specific evidence has yet to be uncovered.
