Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will convene a special meeting next week to discuss accelerating the reconstruction of the Tendean Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) in South Jakarta. The move follows severe structural damage to the bridge after it was struck by a truck transporting heavy equipment.

“For the Tendean JPO, because the incident just happened yesterday, I have requested that a special meeting be scheduled for next week to discuss this,” Pramono said during a visit to Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Thursday (16/7).

Pramono stressed that repairs must be carried out swiftly due to the bridge’s strategic location and the high volume of pedestrian traffic. However, he noted that construction cannot rely solely on the pure Regional Budget (APBD) as the bureaucratic process would take too long. “If it goes through the budget, it will take a very long time. It cannot be done through the pure APBD; it would have to be the revised APBD. I think that will take too long,” he explained.

As a solution, next week’s meeting will examine alternative financing options outside the APBD. Several options being prepared include corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, strategic partnerships with naming rights schemes, and the utilisation of the Floor Area Ratio (KLB) mechanism or SP3L.

In addition to financing, the Jakarta Provincial Government will also decide on legal action against the company that owned the truck which caused the damage. “Regarding whether we will sue the company, I will make a decision during the meeting,” Pramono added.

The South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency had previously carried out a total dismantling of the Tendean JPO on Tuesday (14/7). The agency’s head, Rifki Rismal, stated that the demolition was necessary because the bridge’s support pillars had partially detached, posing a danger to road users due to the lack of central support.

The Jakarta Provincial Government estimates that the damage to the Tendean JPO has resulted in losses amounting to billions of rupiah. To date, no compensation agreement has been reached with the truck owner.
