Pramono Anung Orders Crackdown on Illegal Traffic Controllers on Jakarta's Main Roads

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) to immediately crack down on illegal traffic controllers, colloquially known as ‘Pak Ogah’, on all protocol roads in the capital. The move is intended to ensure that Jakarta’s traffic becomes more orderly, safe, and comfortable for the public.

Pramono emphasised that the handling of illegal parking attendants and traffic controllers will not only be carried out by the Dishub but will also involve the Metro Jaya Police. ‘I have asked the Transportation Agency to clear the protocol roads of these ’Pak Ogah’. I want Jakarta to be more orderly,’ Pramono said during a press briefing in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to Pramono, traffic management on main roads should be the full responsibility of official officers. He stressed the importance of standardising road management so that it no longer relies on illegal parties who often trigger disorder. This policy is expected to improve road user discipline while providing a sense of security for residents travelling on Jakarta’s main routes. Pramono wants the function of protocol roads to return to optimal without disruption from illegal activities.

In its implementation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will prioritise cross-agency collaboration. Pramono confirmed that coordination with the police will be strengthened to maintain consistency in the field operations. ‘Everything is handled by the Transportation Agency and, of course, together with the Metro Jaya Police for the traffic. Hopefully, this will make Jakarta more comfortable, safer, and more enjoyable,’ he concluded.

This crackdown is one of the priorities in the urban planning and transportation management improvement efforts under Pramono Anung’s leadership, with the target of creating a more orderly and functional face for the capital for all road users.
