Pramono Anung: Main Problem of PPDB Complaints is Limited Capacity, Not Selection Mechanism

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has responded to numerous public complaints about the implementation of the New Student Admission (PPDB) process. Pramono assessed that the main problem lies not in the selection mechanism, but in the limited capacity of state schools, particularly those considered favourites.

“Firstly, regarding this new student admission, what has been carried out over time is actually nothing new,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (26/6/2026).

Pramono acknowledged that not all prospective students and parents can be satisfied with the selection results. According to him, this situation occurs because the number of places in state schools, especially favourite ones, is not proportional to the high number of applicants.

“If not everyone is satisfied, we realise that. Why? Because of the limited places in schools considered favourites that are contested. That is always the problem,” he stated.

He explained that many prospective students ultimately fail to be accepted at their target schools even though they reside within the zoning area. They then have to attend other schools that still have capacity.

“They cannot enter the expected school even though they are within the zone, and eventually end up at another school,” he said.

Pramono added that more detailed explanations regarding the PPDB implementation would be provided by the Jakarta Education Agency.
