The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) has reiterated that the capital remains an open city for anyone wishing to seek their fortune. However, new migrants are expected to arrive with readiness and expertise to contribute to the city.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that Jakarta will not restrict urbanisation flows, especially post-Eid al-Fitr. Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of individual capacity for those deciding to settle and work in Jakarta.

“So for any Indonesian citizen who wants to come to Jakarta, Jakarta is open, but Jakarta certainly requires people to work with capacity, capability, or what is needed,” said Pramono Anung on Wednesday (25/3).

Pramono also explained that the government will continue to monitor and regulate on the ground if the situation demands it. However, he assured that the approach taken will not involve justice operations that tend to be repressive towards migrants.

“Jakarta now in such matters will certainly give space to be regulated. People cannot come without any ability and become a burden. But once again, Jakarta will not conduct justice operations,” he emphasised.

In closing, the Pemprov DKI urged the public to prepare themselves as best as possible before heading to the capital. This is aimed at enabling migrants to adapt quickly and work maximally in line with Jakarta’s dynamic needs.

“So Jakarta is open to anyone, but we ask that whoever comes to Jakarta, let’s open space to work hard in Jakarta, we will gladly welcome,” said Pramono.
