Pramono Anung Instructs Public Service Civil Servants Not to Work from Home Today

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has instructed civil servants in public service roles within the Jakarta provincial government not to work from home today, as they are required to be in the field. “They must interact directly with the public who need their services,” Pramono said at the Velodrome in East Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Regarding distance learning, the Jakarta provincial government is following the central government’s directive. State and private schools in Jakarta are permitted to implement distance learning today as part of the celebrations for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day.

This is stipulated in Circular Letter Number 87/SE/2026 concerning the Flexible Implementation of Civil Servant Duties and Distance Learning in the Context of Celebrating and Reflecting on Independence within the Jakarta Provincial Education Office.

The circular requires educational units implementing distance learning to observe several provisions. First, the implementation of distance learning must still ensure the achievement of learning plans. Second, educational units are asked to provide guidance and monitoring of distance learning activities. Schools must also provide alternative learning arrangements should obstacles arise. Third, schools are asked to communicate intensively with parents or guardians and members of the school community regarding the implementation of learning. Accordingly, schools in Jakarta are permitted to implement distance learning on 18 August 2026, but it is neither mandatory nor prohibited.
