The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) has officially adopted a work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday for civil servants (ASN). This policy follows directives from the central government to curb congestion and pollution in the capital.

Governor Pramono Anung affirmed that his administration will fully comply with the regulation, but with stricter oversight. A key aspect of the rule is the prohibition on private vehicle use by ASN during the WFH period.

“Yes, as this is a government decision, the DKI Jakarta Government will follow it. We will put up signposts, including that the use of private vehicles during work from home is not permitted,” said Pramono in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4).

Encouraging Public Transport

Pramono explained that the tightened rules aim to ensure ASN continue to contribute to reducing the road burden in Jakarta. With free public transport facilities for Jakarta ASN, the policy is expected to stimulate changes in transport behaviour.

“So that they really use public transport. Why? Because all Jakarta ASN get it for free. And that is what we will use as a benchmark,” he stressed.

BKD Oversight

To ensure the policy is not abused, Pemprov DKI has delegated technical oversight to the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD). The oversight includes monitoring performance and ensuring ASN do not use WFH time for non-official purposes. “BKD will handle that. So they will regulate it,” he emphasised.

This step is expected to maintain employee productivity while delivering real impacts on traffic smoothness on the last working day of each week.
