Pramono Anung Demands Tough Action Against Sellers of Free JakCard on X
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has issued a firm directive to take decisive action against individuals who sell JakCard, the free transport service card belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He said he would not tolerate such illegal activity, particularly if there is any indication of involvement by insiders.
The free JakCard is a special facility provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government for 15 eligible groups. Cardholders can use Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta services at no cost.
‘I happened to be following this and I am asking that whoever is doing this, including if there is any indication of insider involvement, I ask for firm action to be taken,’ Pramono said at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday (20/5).
Pramono emphasised that the entire transport governance system in Jakarta, including the distribution of free service cards to eligible residents, should be run transparently and openly. The practice of buying and selling the cards undermines the government’s efforts to provide targeted public facilities.
‘Because this is now part of transparency for the regulation of Jakarta’s transport system, including the cards held by residents, it must be conducted transparently and openly,’ he explained.
Based on information gathered, the illegal practice emerged after an X account with the username @lalaputriis reportedly offered the free transport cards to the public at a price. In its post, the account claimed to have limited stock and used a modus to require buyers to transfer funds in advance to secure the cards. This action not only breaches the rules on government facilities ownership but also potentially becomes a digital fraud modus.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is now conducting further investigations to ensure the security of the card distribution system and to ensure that the facility remains enjoyed by those who are truly eligible under the applicable rules. (Ant/H-3)
