Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung claimed that flooding which temporarily inundated hundreds of neighbourhood units (RT) and several road segments in the capital on Friday, 20 February 2026, receded quickly. He said standing water at several key locations had dried up in less than two hours.

Pramono was responding to questions about flooding that submerged 123 neighbourhood units and nine road segments on Friday afternoon. "I've been dealing with the flooding since this morning. But it didn't last very long — no more than one and a half to two hours — and nearly all roads were dry," Pramono said when met in South Jakarta on Friday evening.

He assured that several arterial roads previously reported as flooded had returned to normal. "Right now, all roads including D.I. Panjaitan, Daan Mogot, Pesing and others are no longer flooded, because I personally monitored the situation," he said.

Earlier, the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded flooding in 90 neighbourhood units and six road segments as of 09:00 local time. The numbers increased by midday, with BPBD reporting 123 neighbourhood units and nine road segments affected by inundation.

However, as of 18:00 local time, BPBD reported that 127 neighbourhood units and six road segments remained affected by flooding. The BPBD report noted that Daan Mogot Road (near the glass factory area), Rawa Buaya subdistrict, West Jakarta, was still submerged under 20 centimetres of floodwater.

Pramono also responded to flooding in Kebon Pala, which was reported to have reached 1.5 metres on Friday afternoon. "I have already been in communication with the Head of the Water Resources Agency," he said.

According to Pramono, the inundation was triggered by heavy rainfall in upstream areas, particularly in Tangerang and South Tangerang, causing overflow water to flow into Jakarta. "What is currently happening in Jakarta is due to heavy rainfall upstream. That is what has caused flooding in several areas," he said.

He added that the government had prepared and deployed pumps at several locations to accelerate water extraction. Pramono expressed hope that the flooding would not persist, as sea conditions were not experiencing high tides or tidal flooding, meaning downstream water flow remained unimpeded and the increased water volume from upstream could be managed promptly.
