Pramono Anung Becomes Vice-Chair of C40 Cities, Jakarta to Gain Strategic Benefits

JAKARTA — Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has been elected as vice-chair of the Steering Committee of C40 Cities. C40 Cities is a global network uniting almost 100 senior city leaders, from mayors to governors. Through active collaboration, these leaders share solutions and take concrete action to tackle the climate crisis. Its main focus is to cut greenhouse gas emissions while building a greener and more sustainable urban future. Pramono said Jakarta continues to run various programmes to reduce the impacts of climate change and build a city that is more environmentally friendly. ‘Through the role as Vice Chair of the Steering Committee of C40 Cities, Jakarta will continue to strengthen its position as a global city by promoting collective leadership towards achieving net zero emissions, while delivering tangible benefits that can be felt directly by the people,’ Pramono said in a written statement on Friday (22 May 2026). Starting from expanding access to technical and international funding support, to increasing opportunities for green investment in the sectors of sustainable transport, renewable energy, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Meanwhile, Head of the Regional Cooperation Bureau of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, Marulina Dewi, said the appointment is evidence that Jakarta is increasingly counted in international inter-city cooperation. ‘The trust placed in Governor Pramono Anung as Vice Chair of the Steering Committee of C40 Cities reflects global recognition of Jakarta’s role as a city actively driving climate solutions, sustainable development, and city diplomacy,’ she said. Currently the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is running a number of environmental programmes, such as accelerating the use of electric TransJakarta buses, strengthening rail-based public transit, and enhancing protection of coastal areas to cope with floods and sea level rise. In addition, Jakarta is also expanding the use of renewable energy in public facilities and encouraging green economy development that is expected to create new jobs for residents.
