Pramono Anung Asks Residents to Report Before Eid Al-Fitr Homecoming for Neighbourhood Security
The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, issued a circular requesting residents to report before leaving their homes for Eid al-Fitr homecoming. “We will issue a circular to be signed by the Regional Secretary, requesting residents who are going home to report to their local RT, RW, or sub-district office,” said Pramono at the Jakarta Education Office, South Jakarta, Thursday (February 26th).
Pramono explained that this reporting is not intended to complicate matters for residents but rather as a preventive measure to maintain neighbourhood security while many homes are left unoccupied.
“Secondly, to maintain security and protect the environment, we will reactivate neighbourhood watch programs during the homecoming period,” he emphasized.
When asked about when this reporting requirement would be implemented, Pramono confirmed that the mechanism could be implemented immediately. “It can definitely be done now. So, if residents want to go home, we encourage them to report to their local RT/RW,” he said.
This initiative is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to reduce the potential for crime during the long holiday. With data on residents who are going home recorded at the RT/RW level, neighbourhood surveillance is expected to be more coordinated and responsive in case of security disturbances. (Far/P-3)
