Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed pride over the construction of the MRT Jakarta Phase 2A route from Bundaran HI to Kota, which is being carried out entirely by 3,800 Indonesian workers.

He made the remarks after accompanying Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on an inspection of the MRT Phase 2A project on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

During the visit, Pramono and Gibran directly observed the construction progress in the Sawah Besar to Harmoni area in Central Jakarta.

Pramono stated that all the workers, who are Indonesian nationals, serve as proof that the nation’s sons and daughters are capable of executing large-scale projects when given the opportunity.

“This proves that our best sons and daughters, when given the chance, can deliver extraordinary results,” he added.

Pramono explained that the construction in the Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar areas is one of the most challenging tasks because the stations are located approximately 28 metres underground.

According to him, the construction work at that point is more complex compared to other locations.

“Because the stations in Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar are the deepest, about 28 metres down, the construction work is naturally more extensive than in other areas,” he said.

Additionally, Pramono noted that the progress of the North-South MRT Phase 2A is currently at 59.7 per cent.

The MRT Phase 2A is targeted to begin trial operations in mid-2027.

Following that, the MRT is expected to commence operations up to Harmoni no later than the end of 2027.

Meanwhile, the line extending to Kota Tua is targeted for completion by the end of 2029.

“If everything is completed, the main North-South MRT line spanning 22.2 kilometres will be fully connected in 2029,” he stated.

On that occasion, Pramono also conveyed that Gibran was satisfied with the development of the MRT project.

“He expressed joy and satisfaction because the progress is quite good and the tunnelling is neat,” said Pramono.
