Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has announced that the waste sorting initiative from homes in the capital will commence on Sunday, 10 May. He stated that socialisation has already been conducted across all regions of Jakarta, including the Thousand Islands. “Socialisation has been carried out by all mayors, including the Regent of the Thousand Islands, who has been involved in disseminating the information in their respective areas. Therefore, tomorrow, 10 May, marks the official launch of the initiative,” Pramono said in East Jakarta on Friday. He mentioned that the pilot for the household waste sorting initiative has been implemented for three months in Rorotan and Cilincing. Pramono hopes that the initiative can be carried out to the maximum extent by all parties. “I do not want this initiative to be half-hearted,” said Pramono. Previously, Pramono had signed a gubernatorial instruction (Ingub) on household waste sorting. In addition, Pramono stated that in the near future, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will collaborate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to declare the waste sorting programme in Jakarta. Pramono emphasised that waste management in the capital must be undertaken collectively by both the government and the community. He also hopes that the household waste sorting initiative can be implemented massively throughout Jakarta. “The pilot has actually started in Rorotan, Cilincing, and so on, but hopefully next week this initiative will become a massive effort carried out by all administrative cities in Jakarta,” Pramono said.
