Pramono and Rano Attend Peak of Jakarta's 499th Anniversary, Accompanied by Tanjidor Music

Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno attended the peak celebration of the city’s 499th anniversary at the Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta on Saturday evening. Their arrival was greeted with the strains of tanjidor, a traditional Betawi musical ensemble.

Pramono and Rano arrived around 7.30pm Western Indonesia Time, welcomed festively by musicians in traditional Betawi attire playing the distinctive brass and woodwind music. Pramono wore a long-sleeved white shirt paired with brown batik trousers and an orange headpiece, while Rano Karno was dressed in a similar ensemble. The pair walked side-by-side through the event area, waving to the crowds that had packed the Bundaran HI.

The tanjidor music accompanied Pramono and Rano as they made their way to the main stage, with Betawi dancers also joining the welcoming procession. Members of the public eagerly captured the moment on their mobile phones, shouting greetings to the Governor and Deputy Governor. The pair occasionally paused to greet and shake hands with residents lining the route, amid the lively cheers of the attendees.

The peak celebration of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary carried the theme ‘Towards 5 Centuries of Jakarta’, featuring Betawi cultural performances, music concerts, video mapping, and multimedia attractions held at the Bundaran HI. The series of events served as the closing celebration for the city’s anniversary before it enters its fifth century.
