Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is targeting the Tanah Abang Market area to once again become the largest wholesale centre in Southeast Asia. To achieve this, the Jakarta Provincial Government will reorganise the trading system so that offline and online businesses can operate side by side.

“I want Tanah Abang to become the largest wholesale centre in Southeast Asia and come back to life,” Pramono said in the SCBD area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026).

Pramono stated that in the future, the public will be able to shop at Tanah Abang, either in person or through online platforms. According to him, this trading pattern must be regulated to prevent conflicts among traders.

“Later, people can shop there in two ways, directly or online. Currently, there is a difference between people who shop in person and those who shop online, so there is friction between those selling online discreetly and those selling directly. That is what we must resolve on the ground,” he said.

According to Pramono, the arrangement of Tanah Abang is part of an effort to resolve various long-standing issues that have remained unfinished.

“Tanah Abang is the culmination of solving past problems,” he added.
