Pramono Aims to Extend Jakarta LRT Line to PIK 2, Citing Tourism Potential
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has suggested extending the Jakarta LRT line to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area. This is because the area is considered to have potential as a religious and cultural tourism destination.
Pramono said that the concept of an integrated religious development in PIK 2 has great tourist appeal. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government is considering developing transportation connectivity to PIK 2, including the possibility of building a Jakarta LRT line connected to the area.
“I see the potential of this area as very large. With better transportation connectivity, I am confident that this area will become a new magnet for religious and cultural tourism in Jakarta,” he said when inaugurating the Tian Fu Gong Temple in the Riverwalk Island area, PIK 2, North Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026).
He assessed that the Riverwalk Island PIK 2 area, which presents various places of worship in one area, reflects Indonesia’s diversity. Not only are there temples, but also the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, a Buddhist place of worship, and a Catholic church is planned to be built.
“If there are four places of worship here and they all live in harmony, this is a reflection of the diversity that we must jointly maintain. Even though it is managed privately, this area shows how tolerance and togetherness are truly realised, and this is Indonesia,” he said.
Pramono believes that diversity is one of the main foundations for building Jakarta as a global city. According to him, the progress of the city is not only measured by economic growth and infrastructure development, but also by social harmony and the quality of life of its people.
“Jakarta as a developed, inclusive and sustainable global city is certainly our shared hope. Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to be committed to supporting freedom of religion by ensuring that every citizen has a safe and decent space to carry out worship,” he said.
In addition to being a place of worship and strengthening spirituality, Pramono hopes that the Tian Fu Gong Temple can develop into a centre for social interaction and cultural preservation. He even believes that the place has the potential to become a religious and cultural tourism destination in Jakarta.
“I hope this temple will become a centre for social interaction that spreads the spirit of humanity without regard to differences, as well as a religious and cultural tourist destination that strengthens Jakarta’s identity as a global city that respects traditional heritage,” he said.
