The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has affirmed that Jakarta is an open city, meaning there is no difference in treatment for any resident living in the capital. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung noted that residents living in Jakarta today come from various ethnicities and cultures, but this diversity has always been well maintained.

“Jakarta is a very open city. The diversity in Jakarta has been well preserved, so I really do not want any issues related to ethnicity in Jakarta, because Jakarta is already safe, comfortable, and peaceful,” he said at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

He acknowledged there had been several cases of clashes involving certain groups in Jakarta, including one that occurred in the Menteng area of Central Jakarta on Sunday. He therefore urged all parties to exercise mutual restraint so that the conflict does not spread further. According to him, the problem must be resolved with a cool head. “Hopefully Jakarta remains safe, comfortable, and open for everyone,” he said.

It is understood that a clash between residents occurred on Jalan Tambak, Pegangsaan Village, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of one resident. The Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the two parties involved in the clash had agreed to reconcile. The peace agreement was facilitated by the police. “Both parties have made peace,” he said on Monday.

Nevertheless, Budi stated that his party would continue the legal process related to the clash. According to him, the two groups involved have also handed over the entire legal process to the police. “Both parties are handing over the legal process entirely to Polda Metro Jaya,” he said.

Previously, police had named four suspects in the case of vandalism that occurred during the clash. In addition, three people have been named as suspects in an assault case. “Yes, for the vandalism case, the initials are GNA, AJL, FAM, and ELL. For the assault case, there are three: SK, AS, and OR,” Budi said in Matraman Dalam, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday. He said the two cases are now being handled by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya and the Central Jakarta Metro Police. Police are currently continuing to investigate the clash that resulted in one death. He assessed that it is not impossible that there will be additional suspects in the case. “Give space to our investigators and detectives to dig deeper,” Budi said.
