Pramono Admits Ongoing Efforts for BTS Concert in Jakarta: JIS or GBK
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has admitted that he is still striving to make the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) the venue for a concert by the South Korean music group BTS. Pramono stated that there are two possibilities: the BTS concert being held at JIS or at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).
He conveyed this while opening the Musyawarah Perencanaan Pembangunan (Musrenbang) for the 2027 Regional Government Work Plan at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday (16/4/2026).
“What I haven’t succeeded in yet is that I really want BTS to perform there (JIS). We’re currently fighting over whether it will be at JIS or GBK,” said Pramono.
“Yes, even though both are in Jakarta, I really want either GBK or JIS to get a challenge: what if BTS performs there,” he continued.
Besides BTS, Pramono also revealed that one band, The Weeknd, is planned to perform at JIS this year.
“But I received a report from the Jakpro CEO about The Weeknd. It’s true, The Weeknd is my favourite, you know. Sir, Madam, do you know Pak Bedjo knows The Weeknd? He will perform, hopefully this can really happen,” he stated.
According to him, bringing international artists’ concerts is part of the effort to make Jakarta a global city. He believes that international-scale events can boost Jakarta’s attractiveness, not only as a business city but also as a tourist destination.
Pramono explained that the current trend in visits to Jakarta shows an increase in the duration of tourists’ stays. Previously, the average was only around 1-1.5 days, but now it has risen to nearly three days.
“Even now, there’s a new trend: people coming to Jakarta will stay longer in Jakarta. In the past, the average stay in Jakarta was only one point two five or one and a half days; now the average is 2.8 to three days,” he revealed.
“Why is that happening? Because they feel that Jakarta is not merely a business city but also a tourist city. In fact, the main tourism now is shopping tourism,” he added.
