JAKARTA – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing land acquisition for the Ciliwung River normalisation project. To date, 62 of 170 land plots in Cawang Subdistrict, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, have been acquired.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said progress on the Ciliwung River normalisation is proceeding relatively well, particularly as the programme, which aims to address Jakarta’s flooding problems, had stalled in recent years.

“It is hard to imagine that this area, which used to go viral so often, is now developing very well. People would never have guessed that land in this area could be acquired and the normalisation process carried out,” Pramono said during an inspection of land acquisition progress in Cawang on Friday (10/7/2026).

He noted that of the 170 land plots included in the location designation, 62 have already been acquired, leaving 108 plots still to be secured. The target is for all land acquisition in Cawang to be completed by the end of this year.

“Alhamdulillah, of the target of 170 plots, 62 have been completed. However, by the end of this year we aim to finish the entire acquisition process,” Pramono said.

Once land acquisition is complete, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will immediately proceed with the normalisation of the Ciliwung River. According to Pramono, this will be one of the solutions to tackle the flooding that regularly afflicts Jakarta.

“This programme is a continuation of the normalisation work that was halted for quite a long time. Hopefully this effort will increase the river’s flow capacity so that when floods occur, the impact will no longer be as severe as before,” Pramono said.
