Pram warns of moderate rainfall during Eid celebration
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has cautioned about potential moderate rainfall during Eid al-Fitr.
“There is still potential for rain; rainfall during Eid is likely to be moderate in volume,” said Pramono in the Thousand Islands, Friday.
The official, commonly known as Pram, urged residents planning to return to their hometowns to report to their local neighbourhood associations (RT or RW), so that if undesired events occur, such as flooding, residents can assist homeowners who have left for the mudik period.
“There is also data indicating that sea levels could rise. For this reason, we are asking all residents who will be travelling home to report to their local RT and RW,” Pramono said.
Beyond anticipating flooding, he said, reporting to neighbourhood leaders before departing is also expected to help prevent fires when homes are left vacant by their occupants.
Additionally, reporting before mudik is also intended to prevent the potential for criminal activity, such as theft from empty homes.
According to Pram, reporting to RT and RW officials is important so that the surrounding neighbourhood knows the condition of homes left vacant during the mudik period, allowing oversight to be conducted by neighbourhood leaders and residents.
He also reminded residents not to immediately blame the government at the neighbourhood level if undesired events occur.
He urged residents planning to leave for their hometowns to ensure their homes are properly locked and to coordinate with nearby neighbours whilst away.
