Pram supports Prabowo's plan to build homes for residents along Senen railway tracks
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has expressed his support for President Prabowo Subianto’s move to build decent housing for residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government will provide full support for what the central government is doing to address housing along the railway tracks,” Pramono said at Tosari Shelter, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
Pramono acknowledged that the presence of residents living in public facilities, including along railway tracks and in public cemeteries (TPU), has long been a problem in Jakarta.
However, Pramono stated that the issue is being gradually addressed by relocating residents to rental apartments (Rusun).
Pramono cited the arrangements already carried out in the Kebon Nanas TPU area as an example.
Since January 2026, residents who previously lived in that area have been relocated to simple rental apartments (rusunawa) owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
He noted that this relocation step has had a positive impact, both in terms of area arrangements and resident acceptance.
“We provided six months free of charge, but after that, we ask them to pay or rent fully,” Pramono said.
Therefore, Pramono emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to coordinate with the central government to resolve settlement issues in inappropriate locations.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto stated that he would build decent housing for residents living along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, after directly inspecting the settlement conditions in the area.
As seen in a video upload on President Prabowo’s personal Instagram account (@prabowo), during the inspection, Prabowo, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, toured the settlement area located about three kilometres from central Jakarta.
The President also absorbed the aspirations of the local community and conveyed his commitment to promptly provide decent housing for residents in the region.
“Listening to the aspirations of the people there, Insyaallah, we will soon build decent housing for the people in that area quickly,” Prabowo said.
The Head of State emphasised his determination to provide decent housing for Indonesian citizens.
