Pram says chaotic cable tidying is included in priority programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has assured that tidying up the chaotic cables in the capital is included in the local government’s priority programme. However, Pramono acknowledged that improving the cable infrastructure by burying it underground cannot be completed in an instant. “But this requires time; it cannot be done with a wave of a wand for everything to be finished. Nevertheless, the DKI Jakarta Government already has a programme for it,” Pramono stated at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday. Previously, dangling cables in the Tanah Sari area, West Jakarta, recently went viral after becoming entangled with a bus. In response, Pramono emphasised that the legal foundation for addressing the issue is now strong through the signing of a Regional Regulation (Perda). Pramono explained that the strategic step currently being implemented is the Integrated Utility Network Facilities (SJUT) programme. Through this programme, overhead cables that are hanging will be moved underground to ensure aspects of safety and city aesthetics. “I have signed the Perda. And now we will start focusing and concentrating on putting the cables into (the ground),” Pramono said. Although the budget and regulations are already in place, the vastness of Jakarta’s area and the complexity of the existing utility networks pose technical challenges in the field. This is what makes the work unable to be carried out hastily. Nevertheless, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Public Works Department, continues to make progress on the SJUT implementation at vulnerable points to minimise disruptions to public activities and prevent recurring accidents due to loose or dangling cables over the roads.
