Pram reminds that newcomers must possess work skills
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has once again reminded residents arriving in the capital to possess the ability to work so as not to become a burden.
“Jakarta certainly also requires people to work, with capabilities matching the needs,” said Pramono at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3).
The man familiarly known as Pram also emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will not conduct justice operations.
His side, he said, is very open to anyone who wants to migrate to work in the capital.
However, he stated that if arriving residents lack the ability to work, his side will carry out enforcement.
“In such cases (newcomers without work skills), we will certainly provide space for enforcement. People cannot come without any skills and become a burden. So, Jakarta is open to everyone, but we ask that anyone coming to Jakarta opens up opportunities to work hard in Jakarta,” Pramono explained.
Previously, Member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Nabilah Aboebakar Alhabsyi, had urged the Pemprov DKI to strengthen data collection and administrative population oversight, while providing education to prospective migrants about the real conditions of the job market and cost of living in the capital.
According to her, urbanisation without preparation will only add new problems, from increasing unemployment to the growth of unfit settlements.
“This city is open to everyone, but let us together ensure this city remains orderly and livable for all its residents,” Nabilah stated.
