Pram Emphasises Importance of Education in Developing Jakarta's Human Resources
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, has emphasised the vital role of education in developing human resources in Jakarta.
Education, he stated, is one of the keys to unlocking opportunities and breaking the cycle of misfortune within families.
“I believe that to break the line of misfortune in a family, school is number one,” Pramono said during an awards ceremony for the winners of the 2026 Jakarta Children’s Reading Day (HANJABA) Literacy Competition at City Hall, Jakarta, on Thursday.
According to Pram, the HANJABA competition serves as a simple example of how creative spaces can foster the courage in children to perform and express their ideas.
“I believe events like this are excellent for stimulating, responding to, and encouraging our children to be capable and brave enough to perform,” Pramono added.
He expressed optimism that the potential demonstrated by the children in the 2026 HANJABA competition reflects the strength of Jakarta’s future human resources.
“This is why I am convinced that Jakarta is incredibly rich in human resources, or child resources. And that is what makes me believe that, hopefully, Jakarta will become increasingly resilient in the future,” Pramono remarked.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Library and Archives Office, Nasruddin Djoko Surjono, stated that HANJABA is designed to foster a reading culture while providing space for children to think, imagine, and create.
Following administrative selection, work evaluation, and direct competition, 488 selected participants took part in the competition rounds on 20, 21, and 24 August 2026.
The competition was tailored to different educational levels. Primary school participants (SD/MI) competed in drawing, storytelling, and poetry reading.
Junior high school participants (SMP/MTs) took part in comic strip making and pantun (traditional poetry) competitions, while senior high school participants (SMA/SMK/MA) competed in English speech and photography. Writing competitions were open to students from primary to senior high school levels.
“These various competition branches provide space for children to express literacy in their own unique ways,” Nasruddin explained.
Furthermore, he noted that the participants’ works also demonstrate how the younger generation perceives Jakarta through their experiences, memories, and hopes.
“The 488 participants who have reached this direct competition stage are the best children in Jakarta who have dared to try, create, and convey their ideas,” said Nasruddin.
