Pram: Crackdown on Illegal Parking Without Exception, Including Luxury Cars in Senopati
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stressed that the crackdown on illegal parking will continue across the entire capital, with no exceptions for luxury cars violating the rules in elite areas. He made the statement in response to an enforcement operation in the Senopati area of South Jakarta, which drew complaints from several vehicle owners. “Yesterday, when luxury cars in Senopati were ticketed, they felt that luxury cars had never been touched before,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (26/6). “Once they were penalised, they felt the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government did not give them any prior notice,” he continued. Senopati is known as one of the elite social hubs in South Jakarta. The area on the edge of the SCBD is home to a number of clubs and upscale dining establishments. However, visitors, who generally drive—often luxury—cars, are not supported by adequate parking facilities at each venue, resulting in vehicles frequently spilling over onto the roadside. Pramono emphasised that the parking enforcement is not a temporary programme but will be carried out routinely by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that any crackdown on illegal parking inevitably generates pros and cons. He noted, however, that those who usually complain and refuse to accept the penalties are the ones caught in the wrong. “There will definitely be those who are satisfied and those who are not. Especially those who are not satisfied are the ones who were penalised,” he said. Pramono further stressed that there is no special treatment in the enforcement of parking regulations. According to him, all violating vehicles will be subject to action regardless of the type or price of the vehicle. He therefore confirmed that the crackdown on illegal parking will continue in various areas of Jakarta.
