JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sukamta has expressed condolences over the death of Praka Rico Pramudia, a TNI soldier serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission.

Praka Rico passed away after receiving treatment in Lebanon due to severe injuries sustained in an incident involving a guided missile explosion at the UNIFIL headquarters on Wednesday (29/3/2026).

Praka Rico’s death adds to the number of TNI personnel who have fallen in Lebanon.

“This sacrifice is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace, in line with the constitutional mandate,” Sukamta said in his statement on Saturday (25/4/2026).

He emphasised that the UN needs to evaluate the protection of personnel carrying out peacekeeping missions.

“We urge the United Nations to conduct a thorough evaluation of the UNIFIL mandate and protection mechanisms to align with the evolving threat realities on the ground,” he stated.

According to him, the attack in the UNIFIL operational area indicates that the situation on the ground has experienced significant escalation.

Sukamta urged the UN to adjust the peacekeeping force protection mechanisms to the threat realities on the ground.

In addition, he called for transparent and accountable investigative steps regarding this incident to ensure clarity and accountability.

The Indonesian government is also requested to conduct a comprehensive review of security aspects and troop deployment patterns following Praka Rico’s death.

Sukamta reminded that world peace must not be paid for with futile sacrifices, including from soldiers on duty.

“The Indonesian government needs to conduct a comprehensive review of security aspects, readiness, and troop deployment patterns in peacekeeping missions, without reducing Indonesia’s commitment as an active contributor to maintaining global stability,” he said.

Previously reported, UNIFIL via its X platform stated that Praka Rico (31) passed away after nearly a month of treatment at a hospital in Beirut due to his severe injuries.
