Jakarta, VIVA — Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of the listed company controlled by tycoon Prajogo Pangestu, has announced a partnership with global technology firm SLB to develop a geothermal project.

Star Energy Geothermal is a subsidiary of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN), in which Prajogo serves as one of the controlling shareholders with a stake exceeding 5 per cent. The agreement between the two companies encompasses a number of contracts and collaborative frameworks, including the deployment of future technologies in Indonesia and globally.

The collaboration aims to strengthen project planning, drilling operations, and the mapping of future geothermal development potential — specifically the design and planning of the Sekincau geothermal project in Lampung.

The planning framework covers the identification, evaluation, and planning of future geothermal opportunities, including in North America. The partnership also provides fully integrated drilling services for the development phase of the Sekincau project.

Hendra Tan, President Director of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk and CEO of the Star Energy Geothermal Group, said the partnership reflects Indonesia’s potential as a global source of geothermal energy in the future. According to him, the collaboration marks an important step in building Indonesia-centred expertise that can be expanded internationally.

“Indonesia has future potential as a global source of geothermal energy, and we see an opportunity to transform this potential into tangible impact,” said Hendra, as quoted from an official statement on Friday, 20 February 2026.

Hendra added that the partnership is also a means of accelerating emissions reduction, enhancing energy resilience, and creating sustainable value across multiple continents. This will be achieved through the combination of Star Energy Geothermal’s proven operational capabilities with SLB’s global subsurface mapping and execution expertise.

“This will position geothermal energy as a pillar of Indonesia’s energy transition, and as a solution that can be applied globally,” Hendra added.

The partnership represents a new phase in the relationship between SLB and Star Energy Geothermal, built upon an existing technology collaboration. The cooperation covers the planning and execution of activities, whereby SLB’s technology and technical expertise are applied to enhance performance across all project phases.
