Pradi Supriatna: West Java PWI Plays Important Role in Realising a Special West Java

West Java DPRD Commission I member from the Gerindra Party faction, Pradi Supriatna, has congratulated Tantan Sulthon on his election as chairman of the West Java branch of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the 2026–2031 period. Pradi expressed hope that Tantan’s leadership would make West Java PWI more solid, professional, and capable of making a positive contribution to society and regional development. “Congratulations to Kang Tantan Sulthon who has been elected as chairman of West Java PWI. May he be trustworthy in carrying out his duties and make West Java PWI even more special,” Pradi said on Saturday evening (15/8/2026). According to Pradi, PWI holds a strategic position in maintaining the quality of press life while also being an important part of building a healthy information ecosystem amid the development of digital technology. He expressed hope that West Java PWI under Tantan’s leadership would continue to encourage improvements in the capacity and professionalism of journalists. This is important so that press personnel are able to face the challenges of technological change while continuing to uphold the journalistic code of ethics. Pradi assessed that the challenges facing journalism today are increasingly complex. The rapid flow of information through digital and social media makes the process of verification and news accuracy increasingly important. Therefore, the press is expected not only to be fast in delivering information, but also able to present reporting that is accurate, balanced, and beneficial to society. As a member of West Java DPRD Commission I, which oversees communication affairs among other matters, Pradi also assessed that the relationship between the legislative institution and press personnel needs to be continuously strengthened. Open and constructive communication is needed so that the public obtains complete information regarding various policies and issues in West Java. “The press must remain a social control. But a social control that is constructive, objective, and provides room for solutions. In that way, the press can help drive West Java’s progress,” he said. Pradi expressed hope that the West Java PWI board for the 2026-2031 period would be able to maintain organisational solidarity while strengthening the role of the press as a critical partner of the government and society. He is optimistic that West Java PWI under Tantan’s leadership will become increasingly adaptive in facing the digital era without losing its identity and journalistic professionalism. “May West Java PWI become more advanced, professional, more constructive, and of course more special.”
