Practices During Wuquf at Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina
Prof KH Asrorun Niam Sholeh urged Indonesian Hajj pilgrims to optimally prepare for the peak of the Hajj rituals, the wuquf at Arafah, scheduled for 9 Dhu al-Hijjah. ‘Wuquf at Arafah is the main pillar of Hajj. Without physical presence at Arafah on that date, the Hajj is invalid. Therefore, thorough physical and mental preparation is essential,’ said Kiai Asrorun Niam on Monday (25 May 2026). He explained that today, 8 Dhu al-Hijjah, pilgrims will begin moving gradually towards Arafah. The Ministry of Hajj has arranged staggered departures to ensure all pilgrims arrive on time without any being left behind. At Arafah, he added, pilgrims are encouraged to increase acts of worship such as prayer, remembrance (dhikr), sending blessings upon the Prophet (salawat), voluntary prayers, reciting the Quran, and self-reflection. ‘Arafah Day is a day of answered prayers in a blessed location. The best prayers are those offered on Arafah Day. Use this time to draw closer to Allah and seek forgiveness for wrongs committed against both Him and fellow humans,’ he explained.
