Prabumulih Oil Well Capable of Producing 2,184 Barrels Per Day
PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (Pertamina Drilling) has recorded that oil wells in the Gunung Kemala region, Prabumulih, South Sumatra, are capable of producing net oil ranging from 1,658 to 2,184 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) with a water cut of 1 per cent. Additionally, natural gas production has reached 1.45 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
The President Director of Pertamina Drilling, Avep Disasmita, stated that the well, coded GNK-PD28, demonstrates the capacity of the rig and crew to execute drilling operations that are productive, safe, and efficient. “The performance of Rig PDSI#39.3/D1500-E demonstrates the high competence of Pertamina Drilling personnel in supporting the increase of national oil and gas production,” Avep said in a written statement on Friday, 5 June 2026.
Technically, this oil well was completed in the TAF-K1 layer at an interval of 1,762–1,764 metres Measured Depth (mMD). The crude oil production was obtained through natural flow testing for 2 hours on 31 May 2026.
The Pertamina Drilling rig drilled the well to a depth of 2,235 metres Measured Depth (mMD) and completed the work within 30 days, finishing ahead of the initial 45-day target. Furthermore, the drilling process resulted in zero workplace accidents and zero non-productive time.
Avep Disasmita noted that the project also achieved significant cost efficiency. The realised drilling costs were only 76.13 per cent of the budget approved by the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas).
“The success of the GNK-PD28 drilling proves that Pertamina Drilling focuses not only on achieving operational targets but is also capable of delivering time and cost efficiencies that provide added value to customers,” he added.
The Vice President of Rig Services Operation at Pertamina Drilling, Komedi, praised the entire rig crew. He noted that the achieved efficiency serves as evidence of the company’s ability to optimise resources and technology to produce competitive operational performance.
“This demonstrates the commitment of the rig crew to operational excellence, maintaining workplace safety, and ensuring every stage of the operation follows the best industry standards,” said Komedi.
The GNK-PD28 well, belonging to Pertamina EP Zona 4 Regional 1, is an infill well developed from the GNK-111 reference well, targeting the TAF-K1 reservoir layer. In terms of subsurface structure, the well position is higher (updip) compared to the reference well, providing new geological insights that open opportunities for further field development. Additionally, this finding opens new development prospects in the northern part of the Gunung Kemala Compartment Sector III and potential for further drilling on the eastern side of the Gunung Kemala Structure.
