President Prabowo Subianto conducted a working visit to Miangas Island in North Sulawesi on Saturday (9/5/2026). During the visit, Prabowo held a dialogue with local residents.

“I came to see the conditions on Miangas Island, Indonesia’s northernmost outermost island. I just came from the Philippines, and it turns out it’s quite close to the Philippines,” Prabowo said.

Previously, Prabowo, along with a limited delegation, attended the ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on 7-8 May.

Prabowo then inspected the existing facilities on Miangas Island and promised improvements to the airport, health centres, and schools.

“I am the second president; Mr Jokowi (the 7th President of Indonesia) has already done so. Mr Jokowi inaugurated the airport, and I will repair or maintain it to make it even better,” he said.

“And earlier I saw some health centres. The Health Minister whispered to me that it has been several years since the time of Mr Harto (the 2nd President of Indonesia) that the health centres have not been repaired; we will repair them, we will repair all health centres in Indonesia immediately,” he added.

In addition, Prabowo also promised to improve the schools on Miangas Island, while providing smart screens in every school to support teaching and learning activities.

“Later, all schools will be renovated, all schools will be renovated this year as well, and in the next two to three years, all schools in Indonesia will be renovated,” he stated.

On that occasion, the accompanying ministers were visible: Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
