Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto recounted how he fell victim to artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which can manipulate voices and appearances to make it seem as though he is capable of speaking various languages such as Arabic and singing proficiently.

“AI can make someone speak when they are not speaking. It happens to me often,” said Prabowo during a briefing at the Government Working Meeting with the Red and White Cabinet, along with all Echelon I officials from ministries and state-owned enterprise directors at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Prabowo discovered content on a video-sharing platform showing him singing with a beautiful voice, despite admitting he lacks such ability.

“My voice is terrible, I can’t sing. But there’s a video on YouTube of me singing, with an amazing voice. Even I was shocked,” the President stated.

Additionally, Prabowo came across content depicting him delivering speeches in Mandarin and Arabic, created using similar technology.

The President noted that such phenomena were sometimes seen as advantageous in certain contexts, so they were not immediately addressed.

“There was one of me giving a speech in Mandarin, right? And another in Arabic, extraordinary. Because it was during the campaign, I thought it might be beneficial in the horse-shoe regions, so I stayed silent. If it’s advantageous, we stay quiet,” said Prabowo with a laugh.

He assessed that developments in technologies like AI require attention because they can be used to produce content that does not align with reality.

President Prabowo mentioned that the spread of hoaxes and slander through social media has the potential to damage a country, especially with the support of advancing digital technology.

“In the past, they sent troops, sent bombs; now it’s not necessary. Perhaps with social media games, with slander and hoaxes,” he said.

The President explained that advancements in technology, AI, and digital information systems also allow individuals to possess a large number of accounts.

With relatively inexpensive devices, these accounts can be multiplied, creating the impression that they come from many parties.

He stated that this situation can create an echo chamber effect that amplifies an issue to appear massive, even if it originates from a small group.

“So, a somewhat troublesome group of 100 people, 200 people, maybe 1,000 people, maybe 5,000 people can cause a stir. This is called an echo chamber. It’s taught in intelligence studies—this is how to damage another country,” said Prabowo.
