Prabowo's Stimulus Report: 1.3 Million People Utilise Train Discounts
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government claims that economic stimulus policies in the form of transport fare discounts for the second half of 2026 are beginning to show positive results. The programme, launched to coincide with the school holiday period, has successfully boosted public mobility while driving economic activity across various regions.
Haryo Limanseto, Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, stated that the transport incentives were provided as part of the Economic Stimulus Package for the second half of 2026, as announced by the government following instructions from President Prabowo Subianto.
“These transport incentive and discount policies were introduced to encourage more people to travel during the school holiday period, thereby stimulating economic activity in various regions. To date, the implementation is progressing well and public uptake of the programme has been quite optimal, demonstrating that the stimulus is providing direct benefits to the community,” Haryo said in a statement, quoted on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
As part of the stimulus, the government provided a 30% discount on train tickets from 20 June to 5 July 2026, a 30% discount on Pelni ship base fares from 20 June to 15 August 2026, a waiver of ASDP port service fees from 20 June to 5 July 2026, and a 100% Government-Borne Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) incentive for domestic economy-class airline tickets.
Of all the ongoing programmes, the performance of the train fare discount has been the most prominent. As of 5 July 2026, the programme had been utilised by 1,303,191 passengers, reaching 110% of the target of 1,174,624 passengers. This figure also represents a 13% increase compared to the realisation during the same period last year, which recorded 1,152,581 passengers.
With a budget realisation of Rp90.9 billion, the government provided a 30% discount for all non-PSO and non-pioneer economy train services, covering 150 regular trips and 26 additional trips during the programme period.
Meanwhile, the sea transport discount programme is still ongoing until 15 August 2026. As of 6 July 2026, the programme has been utilised by 481,503 passengers, or approximately 69% of the target of 693,690 passengers.
According to Haryo, the budget realisation for the sea transport programme reached Rp46.9 billion. The government expects the number of users to continue to grow, given that the implementation period continues for more than a month.
Furthermore, ferry transport incentives have also shown high achievement. Based on boarding data up to 5 July 2026, 1,125,088 passengers have utilised the programme, reaching 93.25% of the target of 1,206,585 passengers. This figure consists of 959,880 passengers using 360,141 vehicles, alongside 165,208 pedestrians.
Under this programme, the government provided a 100% waiver on port service fees, equivalent to a ticket discount of approximately 21.11%. The incentive applies to pedestrians, motorcyclists, and private vehicle owners across 14 ferry ports and seven routes managed by PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry.
The government is optimistic that the various stimuli provided can help maintain the momentum of national economic growth amidst global uncertainty, while simultaneously strengthening public purchasing power.
“Moving forward, the Government will continue to monitor the implementation of every programme to ensure that the benefits are more widespread and precisely targeted, thereby strengthening public purchasing power and driving economic activity in various regions,” said Haryo.
