PDI Perjuangan Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto has said his party is promoting the concept of Indonesianomics as the guiding principle for Indonesia’s economic development under President Prabowo Subianto going forward.

The statement was made by Hasto in response to Prabowo’s state address during the plenary session on the 2027 State Budget Financial Note at the parliamentary complex on Friday (14/8).

Hasto believes that Indonesia’s economic concept has in fact already been formulated through Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the Planned Universal National Development Pattern.

“The idea of a just, prosperous and sovereign nation is an idea born of an independent Indonesia, not the idea of any individual. That strength lies in the people’s production, not in the oligarchy,” Hasto said after the 81st Independence Day commemoration ceremony at the PDIP School on Monday (17/8).

Nevertheless, on behalf of PDIP, Hasto expressed gratitude for the president’s statement that his administration is now applying the economic concept of Marhaenism.

Marhaenism has long been identified with PDIP because it was conceived by Indonesia’s first president and independence proclaimer, Sukarno (Bung Karno).

Bung Karno is the father of PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.

According to Hasto, Marhaenism essentially emphasises the sovereignty of the people, particularly farmers and small workers. Therefore, if Prabowonomics adopts the spirit of Marhaenism, its main indicator must be visible in the strengthening of the people’s means of production.

“When we proclaim Marhaenism, then how can farmers be sovereign, how can farmers obtain land as their means of production, obtain agricultural mechanisation to improve the quality of their products,” he said.

In his address, Prabowo joked that his economic thinking, which has so far been called Prabowonomics, is actually Marhaenism, the thinking of Bung Karno.

For that reason, Prabowo believes it would be difficult for PDIP not to support him, because the party is closely associated with Bung Karno’s thinking. He also thanked PDIP in this regard, while saying his policies would be difficult for PDIP not to support.

“I thank you, and special thanks once again to PDIP,” Prabowo said.

“Actually this is not Prabowonomics, this is Marhaenism, PDIP would find it hard not to support this,” he said.

This is not the first time Prabowo has thanked PDIP. On previous occasions, he has also praised the political stance of PDIP, which so far remains outside the large coalition supporting the Prabowo-Gibran administration.

At the same time, Prabowo said his government still needs criticism, but on the other hand the government also needs to work quickly for the people.

He said the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) have now been working in good synergy. Prabowo expressed his gratitude for that.

“I am grateful that there is now synergistic cooperation between the government and the DPR. This does not mean there is no democracy; we must have democracy, we must be supervised, we must be criticised. But we must work quickly for our people,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo also stated that his government will always work optimally for the prosperity of the Indonesian people.
