Prabowo's Speech on the RAPBN 2027 Framework to Safeguard Investor Confidence
Jakarta – Achmad Nur Hidayat, an economist and public policy expert at UPN Veteran Jakarta, said that President Prabowo Subianto’s direct reading of the framework for the Rancangan Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara (RAPBN) 2027 was intended to build public and investor confidence.
He said Indonesia’s current economic challenges are not only about growth but also the public’s perception of the country’s economic future.
‘The primary urgency of the President’s direct address actually lies in the need to rebuild trust,’ Achmad Nur Hidayat said when contacted by ANTARA from Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, in recent months public anxiety about the state of the nation’s fiscal position has begun to emerge. The budget deficit remains formally under control but financing pressures are mounting, while state revenue is beginning to slow as global commodity prices fall.
Meanwhile, he added, government spending needs have risen sharply, from energy subsidies, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, infrastructure development, to a range of populist programmes.
He said that when market participants see a fiscal trajectory that could widen without a strong source of revenue, cautious behaviour will follow.
‘Investors read the situation very sensitively. They do not just look at the APBN figures but also the consistency of policy,’ said Achmad.
To address public unease, he said, the President’s appearance to deliver a speech on the Macro Economic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) RAPBN 2027 this Wednesday morning is therefore very important.
Through this step, he assessed, the government aims to show that economic control remains in the hands of the nation’s leadership, rather than operating separately under various technical ministries.
‘Today’s presidential speech is more than a ceremonial event. It has become a stage for affirming the direction of the national economy. The President’s presence can also be read as an effort to dampen negative speculation,’ added Achmad.
In previous years, the introductory speech to the KEM-PPKF RAPBN was usually delivered by the Finance Minister. This is the first time the statement has been delivered directly by the President.
Mukhamad Misbakhun, Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR, said that delivering President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on the KEM-PPKF had become a new tradition in presenting macroeconomic frameworks in the DPR.
President Prabowo Subianto also explained the reason for delivering the introductory RAPBN 2027 speech at the DPR/MPR RI Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, that Indonesia is currently facing geopolitical and geo-economic global challenges full of conflict, tension, and uncertainty.
‘We, as a nation, face geopolitical and geo-economic challenges that are full of conflict, tension, and uncertainty. Therefore, given the conditions we face, I believe that the President of the Republic of Indonesia must be directly present to articulate the key ideas of the economy and state management,’ said Prabowo.
