Prabowo's Sacrificial Cow Rampages, Charges Crowd at Surabaya's Al Akbar Mosque
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s sacrificial cow suddenly ran and became difficult to control when being unloaded from a truck at Surabaya’s Al Akbar Mosque.
The 1.1-tonne animal caused panic and even charged at nearby onlookers.
The incident occurred as the white cow was being moved from the truck to the Eid al-Adha showcase tent at the mosque.
Prabowo’s sacrificial cow briefly lost control and charged at spectators, but staff swiftly guided it to the tent.
According to detikJatim, the cow remained stressed and unsettled in the tent, refusing food and water while standing restlessly.
A spokesperson for Surabaya’s Al Akbar Mosque, Helmy Noor, confirmed the animal is now under control and safely secured at the mosque’s Eid showcase.
“No, it has not broken free; it remains manageable by the breeder from unloading to the showcase,” Helmy told detikJatim on Tuesday (26 May).
“The cow did, however, run about quite energetically,” he added.
The sacrificial cow, weighing 1,100kg and of the Peranakan Ongole (PO) breed, stands 155.5 centimetres tall and is six years old.
Purchased from breeder Akhmad Ritaudin in Bluri Village, Solokuro Subdistrict, Lamongan, the animal is scheduled for slaughter on the second day of Eid al-Adha, Thursday, alongside other sacrificial animals at the mosque.
